Product Care
Most of our shoes are handcrafted and need a little care from time to time. Here are the general rules:
Cleaning your shoes regularly makes them last longer, so remember to wipe off mud, dust and dirt after wearing them. For suede, you can remove dry dirt with a special suede eraser, brushing the surface gently.
Use shoe trees after you’ve worn the shoes and when you store them: they keep their shape and help them dry. Make sure the shoe trees are the right size, and use a shoe horn when putting your shoes on so the back isn’t crushed.
Wet shoes should be dried slowly in a naturally warm place. Avoid direct heat (hair dryers, fan heaters, radiators): it dries out and weakens the leather, which can then crack. Simply fill them with newspaper to absorb the moisture. Before they are completely dry, insert shoe trees so they return to their proper shape. Once dry, give them some care with shoe polish or a spray suited to the leather or suede.
Some of our shoes have leather soles. If you plan to wear them every day in cold, rainy or snowy weather, ask your shoemaker to add a rubber sole. Check the heels for wear from time to time and have them replaced if necessary.
Treat new leather or suede shoes before wearing them, so they are better protected against dirt and rain. Condition smooth, shiny leather with polish; a water-repellent spray is the best choice for suede and matt leather.
